Dear Director:
This year, The Annapolis Yacht Club’s 8th Annual Build-a-Boat Challenge
will feature a new teammate: your organization.
We are pairing 19
boat-building syndicates with 19 local and national charities and are
encouraging the public to contribute to the prize pool. If the syndicate
that selected your organization wins, your organization will share in
50% of the prize pool with three other winning teams. The remaining 15
charities will share evenly in the remaining 50% of the donated cash and
gifts.
In
some instances we will be sending a check and in other instances we will
send a gift certificate that you can raffle off or simply sell to one
of your supporters.
I
am attaching an article from our Club’s
newsletter that describes this exciting event.
Each year, hundreds of people attend it. The event
involves a five-hour construction phase on Saturday,
June 21 and the racing of the hastily constructed
vessels on Sunday, June 22.
The
purpose of this letter is to inform you that your
organization has been selected as a recipient
of a portion of the donations and to encourage
your local supporters to attend this free event,
support the canister associated with your team,
and then root your team on to victory on Sunday
beginning at 1 p.m. 100% of all donations will
be distributed to the civic and charitable causes
aligned with the syndicates.
Refreshments are
available at the Yacht Club Annex during the construction phase on Saturday.
The best viewpoint for the races on Sunday is from The Spa Creek Bridge.
We trust you will encourage your supporters to
join in the fun and excitement.
Sincerely
yours,
William E. Hancock
Flag Lieutenant
