Sika Corporation's 9th Annual Sika-AYC Build-A-Boat Challenge
at Annapolis Yacht Club June 25-27, 2004

The Challenge

To design, build, and sail or paddle a small boat using limited materials and an unlimited quantity of fast-curing Sikaflex®-291 Sealant.

Teams, called syndicates, compete for the coveted Sika Challenge Cup. The members of each team, consisting of eight members, are allotted up to five hours to complete their boat using only the supplied materials. There are specific rules that must be followed in building and paddling or sailing the boats.

The competition starts with the construction phase and ends with the race to the finish on Sunday. It's a fun event for the whole family.

Proceeds from the event benefit the AYC Junior Fleet.

Festivities begin with a party and dinner for participants, AYC members, and friends on Friday, June 25. Cost for dinner is $25 per person plus tax and tip, and reservations for dinner are required by Tuesday, June 21. Please call the front desk to reserve, 410 263-9279.

Saturday, June 26, is Boat construction day. The construction starts at 10 a.m. and continues through 4 p.m. The public is invited to the AYC Annex to watch the syndicates in action.

Food and beverages will be available at the construction site - thanks to the generosity of Whole Foods, Inc.

On Sunday, June 27, the Build-A-Boat race will start promptly at 1:18 p.m. to honor the Club’s 118th birthday. AYC will celebrate the Club’s anniversary concurrent with the Build-A-Boat Race awards ceremony after the race. AYC birthday cake will be served.
