The Challenge is to design, build and race a small boat using limited materials, a limited quantity of fast curing Sikaflex® 291 Adhesive/Sealant and tenacious skill by team members.

Up to eighteen (18) teams will compete for trophies. Teams, entered by sponsoring Syndicates, are certified to compete upon receipt by AYC of a completed entry form, AYC/Sika Release Form and entry fee. Funds collected are used for materials, trophies and other expenses incurred in conduct of this event. Any excess cash will be donated to Junior Sailing activities.

Teams of no fewer than three and no more than eight persons will be allotted up to five hours to complete their boats using the following materials to be supplied by AYC.

A plastic ground cover at least 15' x 20' is required to be provided by the Syndicates.

Method of construction: Cut wood to suit individual designs. Attach pieces together using plastic ties looped through drilled holes at regular intervals. Bond using Sikaflex® 291 Adhesive/Sealant. Decoration of the finished boat is at the discretion of each team usually following a theme that uniquely identifies the Syndicate. Other than the use of water-based paint, there are no other restrictions for finishing and decorating the boats so long as there is no contamination of the water in Spa Creek.

Only battery operated hand tools may be used.

All team members will be on hand during the construction phase.

Boats, paddles and sails must be made of materials provided by AYC. (NO SUBSTITUTES). NO EXCEPTIONS.

Syndicates must register whether they will be in the sailing or paddling category at the Syndicate Meeting.

NO MOTORS ARE ALLOWED. Clandestine use of a motor will disqualify the team and banish the culprits to the dungeon for a period determined by the Chief Judge.

Shoes and safety goggles will be worn during construction. Use care in moving around boats in final stages of construction. Only team members will be allowed in the vicinity of boats.

No alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the construction area during the five hours allotted for building the boat.
